Hosea 1
Hosea’s Wife and Children
1The word of the Lord which came to aHosea the son of Beeri, during the days of bUzziah, cJotham, dAhaz and eHezekiah, kings of Judah, and during the days of fJeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel. 2When the Lord first spoke through Hosea, the Lord said to Hosea, g“Go, take to yourself a wife of harlotry and have children of harlotry; for hthe land commits flagrant harlotry, ▼▼ Lit from not following after
forsaking the Lord.” 3So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and jbore him a son. 4And the Lord said to him, “Name him kJezreel; for yet a little while, and lI will ▼▼ Lit visit the bloodshed of Jezreel on the house of Jehu
punish the house of Jehu for the bloodshed of Jezreel, and nI will put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel. 5“On that day I will obreak the bow of Israel in the pvalley of Jezreel.” 6Then she conceived again and gave birth to a daughter. And ▼▼ Lit He
the Lord said to him, “Name her ▼▼ I.e. she has not obtained compassion
Lo-ruhamah, for I will no longer shave compassion on the house of Israel, that I would ever forgive them. 7“But I will have tcompassion on the house of Judah and udeliver them by the Lord their God, and will not deliver them by vbow, sword, battle, horses or horsemen.” 8When she had weaned Lo-ruhamah, she conceived and gave birth to a son. 9And ▼▼ Lit He
the Lord said, “Name him ▼▼ I.e. not my people
Lo-ammi, for you are not My people and I am not ▼▼ Lit yours
your God.” 10 ▼▼ Ch 2:1 in Heb
Yet the number of the sons of IsraelWill be like the aasand of the sea,
Which cannot be measured or numbered;
And abin the place
Where it is said to them,
“You are acnot My people,”
It will be said to them,
“You are the adsons of the living God.”
11And the aesons of Judah and the sons of Israel will be afgathered together,
And they will appoint for themselves agone leader,
And they will go up from the land,
For great will be the day of Jezreel.
